So much stuff

Hello! A quick little post to say that the move is going well but holy crap do I have a lot of stuff.

My house is 1,800 feet. I think it is more then half full. I still have furniture and more stuff to move into it.

My dad keeps joking that I should have bought their house and just had them (my parents) move out. He likes to make this joke when my arms are full and he is far out of reach.

I can't wait to make the jokes when it's their turn to move.

Oyster mushrooms just my experimental growing list

via Instagram

They had a bit of an odd taste because I was looking for the portabello taste. Definitely something I can get used to eating. This was a palm sized bunch from the store and it cost $0.71. A good price to see if I actually liked eating them.

But yes, I'm going to take a look into growing them. Maybe. If the cost to grow is more then the cost to buy then I probably wont. Time for research.

A small Barn problem

So the dust in my barn might have tried to kill me. At least I am hoping it was dust.

See, I was in my barn... for only a few moments and my allergies started going nuts and I got a dry hacking cough. I was a miserable wreck.

When I first looked at the house and barn this didn't happen.

Some thing with the humidity from the melting snow caused... something. I am really hoping that it isn't mold. But I am going to spray the place down with a bleach solution anyhow. Better safe then sorry.

I am also going to vacuum the inside because if it is dust, I want it under control.

It is a fantastic little barn. And just as soon as I can figure out how to pick the 1880's padlock on the other barn door, it will make for a wonderful workshop in the summer and fall.

Yeah, there is an 1880 pad lock on the back door of the barn. It's a monster and I have no intention of cutting it. In fact, I am pretty sure modern bolt cutters couldn't. I'll probably just remove the part that it is connected to. Get someone to pick the lock if I can't find a key that fits it. Then put the hardware back with a different lock.

Actully... that might have been the area were I started coughing. So that'll get sprayed down first.

Also, there is so much curl in the wood that was used to built the barn. The original beams really stand out against the new ply-board that was used when the former owners had a new roof put on it.

Pictures when my barn isn't trying to kill me.

A saffron thing

via Instagram

EDIT:

While packing up, my mom asked if I wanted this... thing.

According to her the box said it was for saffron. She had gotten it at a garage sale decades ago when we lived in Oregon.

Since she got rid of the box long ago, I'm just going with it.

At least it's a story?

Ah... the good ol' Sword of Darkness series one. Can't wait to hang this up.

via Instagram

EDIT:

Once upon a time I was a bit of a goth in high school.

And yes, I always talked about getting one. Any time the catalog came out it was there. The series one Sword of Darkness. There was a Sword of Valor as well... I think. Then they started showing the second series and it... wasn't as pretty.

Eventually my parents got it for me for Christmas.

Keep in mind that this sword is completely unusable. the claws on the hilt will dig into your wrist if you try to hold it properly. It's not even a live blade. just a well polished edge and a sharp point. Fortunately I got it just to hang on the wall.

Gutter repair for the summer

via Instagram

EDIT;

I did know about it when I bought the house, I just hadn't realized how bad it could get.

Once I get a mask I'll be having an attic adventure.

National Center for Home Food Preservation

http://nchfp.uga.edu/

This? This right here? Is going to keep me busy.

The site is for National Center for Home Food Preservation. It's not too fleshed out but it gets you going.

I also have to put this very firmly in the End of Summer part of my to do list.
